Inside info: New
Marketing Manager for ALM Research
Christine Yoest was just three weeks into her new position
as Marketing Manager for ALM
Research at the time of our interview, but she already
had a clear vision of her mission: to support the sales team
in getting out the word about products and subscription opportunities
available through ALM
Research Online, and to provide ALM Research customers
with the support and information needed to optimize their
search experience.
Her
background in management consulting and legal industry publishing
appear to have given her the perfect segue into her new position.
After graduating from the University of Pennsylvania’s
Wharton School of Business with a concentration in marketing,
Christine (“Christy”) moved to Washington, D.C.
to work for PricewaterhouseCoopers’ public sector consulting
unit. In that position, as she describes it, she worked on
many “big, fat reports” for the government, and
thoroughly enjoyed the writing aspect of her job.
When
PwC was acquired by the IBM Corporation and merged into IBM’s
global business consulting unit, Christy decided to make a
move to New York and to the private sector, where she went
to work for Archstone Consulting. She was the 100th employee
hired into this brand new start-up firm.
Good
companies all, but Christy found that her work in management
consulting for corporate America meant that she was doing
less writing, and more PowerPoints and Executive Summaries.
Having
experienced the consulting industry from seemingly all angles,
Christy decided she wanted to get into a more writing, marketing,
and creative focused occupation. She found herself next at
the Jungle Media Group (former publishers of JD Jungle and
then Jungle Law, a magazine for young lawyers). In her position
there, Christy was in the unique position of being both an
associate editor and a marketing director. As editor, she
wrote service pieces and profiles for the magazine, including
interviewing former LMA
president Diane Hamlin on the rise of marketing in law
firms. In addition, her work involved not only the print end
of magazine publishing, but the online end, and the marketing
end, as well as the conferences and events end.
Reflecting
back on her work at Jungle Media, Christy finds it almost
ironic, considering where it led her. As she puts it, “It
was a whirlwind that got me up to speed on the publishing
industry, and it was a great segue to my current position.”
Even
though her first day working for ALM Research was December
5, 2006, Christy said she was already looking forward to trying
to identify new markets for the division’s products
and services. “There are a number of things on our web
site that could be improved in terms of the look, feel, and
functionality of the site,” she said. So, some re-design
of ALM
Research Online is in the works, and Christy said she
was looking forward to it— “I’m excited
to see how the web optimization project will improve our services
and benefit our customers. ”
Christy
Yoest, new Marketing Manager for ALM Research, plans to attend
ALM’s Legal
Tech in New York at the end of January, and in March she
will be attending the annual LMA
conference in Atlanta. Be sure to look for her there if you
are attending also, and tell her you read about it here.
